Before
Treatment

SCHEDULING. Schedule your lip filler treatment at least 1-2 weeks before any special event, such as a wedding or vacation, to ensure optimal results and allow any potential bruising or swelling to subside. This also provides time for any necessary refinements.
AVOID ALCOHOL. Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours prior to treatment, as it can thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising.
DISCONTINUE BLOOD-THINNING MEDICATIONS. Avoid anti-inflammatory and blood-thinning medications, if possible, for a period of two weeks before treatment. This includes aspirin, Vitamin E, Ginkgo Biloba, Ginseng, St. John’s Wort, Omega 3/Fish Oil supplements, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, and other NSAIDs, as they can increase the risk of bruising and swelling after injections.
DISCONTINUE RETIN-A. Discontinue the use of Retin-A two days before and two days after treatment to minimize skin irritation.

Day Of
Treatment

ARRIVAL. Arrive at your appointment with a clean face—please do not wear makeup, tinted moisturizer, sunscreen, etc., which may interfere with the procedure.
CONSULTATION. If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another outbreak. Please let us know so you can be prescribed antiviral medication prior to treatment. You will have a brief consultation with your practitioner to discuss your treatment objectives and ensure your goals are understood and aligned with the treatment plan. You will also review and sign a consent form to confirm your understanding and agreement to the procedure.
PREPARATION. Be sure to have a solid meal, including food and drink, the morning before your procedure. This will decrease the chances of lightheadedness during your treatment.
PROCEDURE. The procedure typically takes about 30-60 minutes. Your practitioner will clean and prep your lips, and may apply a topical anesthetic to minimize discomfort. The lip filler is then injected using fine needles to enhance the volume and contour of your lips. You may feel mild discomfort during the injections.
POST-TREATMENT APPEARANCE. It is normal to experience redness, swelling, and tenderness in the treated area. These reactions usually subside within a few hours to a few days. Your lips may feel slightly firm initially, but this will soften as the filler integrates with your natural tissues.
POST-TREATMENT CARE. Avoid touching or applying makeup to the treated area for at least 12 hours post-treatment. Follow any additional post-treatment instructions provided by your practitioner to ensure optimal healing and results.

After
Treatment

IMMEDIATE RESULTS. Once you have received a lip filler treatment, the results will be apparent immediately and will last from several months to a year, depending on the filler used and your individual biology.
NUMBNESS AND TINGLING. Due to the presence of lidocaine anesthetic in the gel formula, you may feel numbness or tingling immediately after the procedure. This will resolve within the hour.
BRUISING AND SWELLING: Bruising may be visible initially and may become more obvious the next day. It will fade over the next 7 to 14 days. You may experience significant swelling after injections, especially in your lips. Applying clean, cool compresses to the treatment area helps to reduce swelling. Mild, non-painful swelling may last for up to 2 weeks. This is no reason to worry, but feel free to contact Better You Aesthetics with any concerns.
MAKEUP AND HYDRATION. Do not apply makeup over injection points for 24 hours after the procedure. If you need to hydrate your lips, simply apply Aquaphor with a clean cotton swab or Q-Tip.
DISCOMFORT. Some people may experience a dull ache and/or tenderness in the treated areas. This will subside in 48-72 hours. AVOID
ANTI-INFLAMMATORY MEDICATIONS. Do not take any anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen, Motrin, or Advil, as these agents can increase the risk of bruising and swelling.
CLEANLINESS AND SKIN CARE. Use clean linens and towels during the healing process. Continue to stay hydrated and maintain good skin care practices.
LONG-TERM CARE. The longevity of your results will depend on various factors, including the type of filler used, the treatment area, and your individual metabolism. Regular maintenance treatments may be recommended to sustain your desired look.
ADVERSE EVENTS. In the rare case of an adverse event, an antidote can be administered to partially or fully reverse the effects of the treatment.

Tips

AVOID EXCESSIVE MOVEMENTS. Avoid excessive movement of the treated area, such as vigorous kissing, sipping through straws, or smoking, for at least 24 hours post-treatment to allow the filler to settle properly.
HYDRATE. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, as this can help improve the overall results and maintain the volume of your lip fillers.
AVOID EXTREME TEMPERATURES. Avoid extreme temperatures such as saunas, steam rooms, and hot showers for at least 48 hours post-treatment, as heat can increase swelling and bruising.
ELEVATE YOUR HEAD. Sleep with your head elevated for the first night after treatment to help reduce swelling.
AVOID BLOOD-THINNING SUBSTANCES. Continue to avoid alcohol and blood-thinning substances such as aspirin and certain supplements for at least 48 hours post-treatment to minimize bruising.
